With GCSE results day only a week away, it is important to know what to expect leading up to

the day, as well as how to deal with your results, so we have provided a step-by-step guide on

the process!

Prior to results

Before results day, make sure you are well-informed on the process your school is going to

follow. GCSE results day is on the 22nd August 2024, so confirm with your school what time it

will open and when you will be able to receive your results. If you are unable to go in person,

ensure to contact your school to find out how you can have your results emailed to you. Make

sure you are eating and sleeping well, and speak to your friends and family about any concerns

or worries you feel.

On the day

If you are going into your school to receive your results, make sure you arrive on time, and keep

photo ID handy, in case it is a teacher who does not recognise you who is handing out the

results. When opening your results, do it wherever you feel most comfortable - in front of

friends, parents, or just by yourself. Look first for your English and Maths grades - a 4 or 5 is a

pass in these, which are necessary for future employment, colleges, sixth form and even some

universities. If you need specific grades for future A-Levels, such as Maths, Biology, Chemistry

or Physics, also ensure that you have enough to enrol on to these A-Level courses.

Dealing with disappointment

If you find yourself in the situation where you are disappointed with some grades, especially so

if you haven’t passed in them, it is worth speaking to a teacher about next steps. Though it

depends on a person-to-person basis, checking your marks and the the grade boundaries may

help you understand how far off the next grade you are. You can also appeal a grade or apply

for remarking, however remember you must pay for this, and grades can go up or down.

Overall, however, it is important to congratulate yourself on all your hard work, and to stay calm

through this upcoming week!
