Results day for both GCSEs and A-Levels are coming up soon, so it's important you understand the results process, alongside how to navigate clearing, is key to having the most stress-free results day!
Clearing
Clearing is a process which allows students who did not meet their offers, or are
new applicants now deciding to go to university, or who want to change their university/course,
get the opportunity to do so. In order to use clearing, find the course and vacancy you want to
apply for on UCAS, then call the university to make sure you meet the entry requirements, and
then add the ‘Clearing’ option UCAS, and fill in all the relevant information. Clearing vacancies
are open to find from July onwards.
Be prepared for the day
Depending on school, you may have an in person results day, or may get emailed your actual
grades, however UCAS typically updates whether you have been successful from roughly 8am.
So make sure you are prepared with fast internet connection, a pen and diary in case you need
to use clearing or call any university - remember universities get extremely busy at this point, so
be as quick as possible!
Update your Student Finance
If you are using Student Finance to fund university and find you want to use Clearing to change
your university, make sure you update your choices on your student finance account. This is a
necessary step to ensure you still receive your loans and your tuition fees are paid to the right
university.
Take a deep breath!
Although it can sound extremely difficult to try and stay calm on results day, remember that
your results do not define you - your hard work will pay off, and there are still great options such
as taking a gap year or using Clearing.
